Their care package includes a waist collar and leash set among others. Vet exam and health certificates are available upon request.

Warning:

We do not recommend lemurs as pets to inexperienced exotic animal owners.

Only approved applicants who have done their research on this challenging exotic animal will be considered.

Ring-tailed lemurs are the most aggressive species of lemur, and they will get aggressive toward humans if they are hand-raised, even with proper care.

Babies will be sweet and docile, but most ring-tailed lemurs will become territorial and start attacking humans after reaching sexual maturity around 2 years old, even if they are fixed.

While they are a cute animal, lemurs have razor sharp teeth, and the wounds they inflict often need professional medical attention.

We do not recommend them for households with children or elderly, as those are typically their go-to victims.

Many ring-tailed lemurs attack their owners even. And remember… lemurs live up to 30 years in captivity! Be prepared for this commitment!

Some ways to reduce the likelihood of your ring-tailed lemur from becoming aggressive include:

  • Raising them in a more “hands off” method. After the hand-feeding stage, allow your animal companions to roam free in a large outdoor enclosure rather than living indoors with humans 24/7 like typical domestic animals.

  • Raising pet lemurs in a troop setting. Get two or more lemurs to raise together.

If you won’t do either of the 2 methods above, then make sure you have a backup plan when (not if) your lemur starts attacking people.

A large outdoor enclosure for them to live out their entire life, and with at least one other ring-tailed lemur companion.

Ruffed lemurs are far more likely to remain docile and will remain gentle and can be handled even as adults. Brown lemurs are “hit or miss” – some will stay docile while others can get as aggressive as a ringtail.

We are happy to answer any specific questions you may have once you have done some research on lemur ownership.

Spraying and Neutering

Having your Lemur neutered/spayed when they are old enough (around 6 months) will help them live a longer, healthier life, as it will protect them from certain cancers and diseases. Sterilizing your baby will also reduce aggression.
